READ FIRST--Amazing Family Vacation: Savannah Style

I fell in love with Savannah when I visited for three hours while driving home to New England from Florida in the fall of 1999. The boys were 3 and 5 at the time and we were traveling with my mother. Ten years later I found myself back there, this time with my husband Steve. I could not agree more with the old saying: If you haven't seen Savannah, you haven't seen the south!

To start with you'll want to pick a date when you have all day to be gone. You'll need about 6-7 hours to spend on the ground in Savannah in addition to your travel time. We traveled 4.5 hours to get there and didn't get home too late!

This is a good marriage/parent-child building time away from home/work/kids.
We did it in one day so it was fairly economical, coming in at under $100.

You'll polish up your map skills as well so get your brain ready.

Before you go. For extra prep you may want to watch one or all of 4 movies highlighted on this tour. All were shot in Savannah,
1. Something to Talk About,
2. Forces of Nature,
3. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and
4. Forrest Gump.

or if you have time read the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

The day of:
-Pack some snacks and water bottles.
-Wear good walking shoes
-Have your mobile device fully charged and bring a car charger
-Bring your camera
-Eat breakfast
